My typical work-from-home day involves juggling various tasks, including grocery shopping, filming cooking videos, and squeezing in some exercise. Today, it all started with a 6:45 am wake-up, a quick freshening up, and a 10-minute planning session. First on the agenda: create a grocery list and head to the store.
My grocery run today was essential for filming upcoming cooking videos. I needed to pick up ingredients for several recipes: chicken breast, a braised chuck roast, and a Thai-inspired sausage dish. With a yoga class scheduled for noon, I knew I had to get my shopping done efficiently.
Central Market is my go-to grocery store, even though it’s a bit further from home. I arrived a bit early and had to wait for it to open, so I took the opportunity to get in some extra steps. Do you enjoy grocery shopping? For me, it’s a pleasure, whether it’s a quick trip or a longer, more planned excursion. The anticipation of creating delicious meals later makes the experience even more enjoyable.
I love exploring the produce section at Central Market, especially their impressive apple selection. Today, I picked up some Jazz apples to try. I always enjoy discovering new varieties.
The aroma of grilled meats from the store’s deli captivated me on my way out. Although tempting, I had to head home and start filming.
The Jazz apples lived up to their name. They had a satisfying crunch, reminiscent of a Honeycrisp, with subtle pear notes. Highly recommend!
After changing into my filming attire, I made a coffee and began working on three different cooking projects: braising a chuck roast, prepping chicken, and mixing the Thai sausage. I film all my videos solo, moving the camera and lighting equipment around my kitchen as I go. I like to multitask during filming, so I caught up on the latest episode of Succession while prepping the aromatics for the sausage.
Filming went smoothly, and I got most of it completed. With a short break before my yoga class, I grabbed a quick snack of half a protein bar and leftover fried rice. Lunch was going to be tostadas, featuring my favorite tortilla chips.
My planned yoga class was canceled, but I opted for another class that incorporated weights. It was a challenging workout, but it left me feeling energized and hungry. I decided to make tostadas with a small portion of the braised beef.
Making tostadas is a quick and easy process. I grated Monterey Jack cheese onto the tostadas and melted it in the oven. I chopped the braised beef, added spices like smoked paprika and cumin, and mixed it with diced onions, cilantro, and lime juice. Topped with low-fat sour cream, salsa verde, and the cilantro-onion mix, these tostadas are a delicious and satisfying meal.
I rounded out my lunch with the rest of the Jazz apple, sparkling water, and yogurt for extra protein. I also indulged in a mini ice cream sandwich. After lunch, I relaxed for a bit before getting back to work.
Mid-afternoon, I made myself an iced coffee using a method I learned from James Hoffman. It’s a great way to avoid diluted coffee. While enjoying my coffee, I filmed some short-form videos for my second channel. I’m still experimenting with short-form content and trying to find the best way to deliver valuable information in a concise format.
After filming the shorts, I cooked a chicken breast, which I planned to use for dinner later. I spent some time offloading footage and organizing files. The weather was beautiful, so I considered going for a walk or practicing my putting.
I ended up getting in 10,000 steps and spent some time chipping on the putting green. After a couple of games of Apex Legends, it was time for dinner.
Dinner was a quick and easy pasta salad. I cooked the pasta and while it was boiling, I prepped the other ingredients: chopped baby broccoli, quartered cherry tomatoes, diced shallots, and sliced lemon for the dressing. The dressing consisted of olive oil, lemon juice, shallots, oregano, a German seasoning, and starchy pasta water.
I combined the cooked pasta, broccoli, tomatoes, grilled chicken, dressing, and grated Parmesan cheese in a bowl, adding a few drops of Calabrian chili oil for a touch of heat. This pasta salad is a weeknight staple for me.
After dinner, I uploaded the remaining footage and wrapped up my workday. Tomorrow, I’ll be filming the second half of the cooking video I started today. I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into my work-from-home routine and found some culinary inspiration.
